The 3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix stands out due to its distinctive utilization of ORC technology. Unlike traditional collagen dressings, the PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix incorporates 44% oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC). ORC is a plant-based material that, when oxidized, becomes bioresorbable and degrades readily through fluid absorption and subsequent gelling. This ORC, combined with collagen and silver-ORC, forms a unique biodegradable gel in the presence of exudate.

The inclusion of ORC offers several significant benefits. Firstly, it exhibits hemostatic properties, helping to control bleeding in the wound. Secondly, ORC has been shown to stimulate cell migration and growth, vital steps in the wound healing process. It also has bactericidal properties and can effectively reduce protease activity levels, specifically elastase and MMPs, which if unregulated, can impair wound healing. Finally, ORC scavenges free radicals and binds excess metal ions, further promoting a conducive environment for wound recovery.

In contrast, while collagen dressings are highly effective in promoting wound healing by providing a scaffold for new tissue growth, they lack the additional benefits offered by ORC.
