Melgisorb® Plus, a highly absorbent alginate dressing by Mölnlycke, is ideal for chronic and acute wounds such as ulcers and burns. It forms a gel on contact with wound exudate, effectively absorbing bacteria and aiding haemostasis. Easy to shape, comfortable, it ensures a painless dressing change.

Application steps:

1. Choose a size of Melgisorb Plus that is slightly larger than the wound. Open the package.

2. Apply a dry Melgisorb Plus dressing to the moist wound bed.

- For shallow wounds: Choose the correct size of flat dressing to fully cover the wound.

3. For deep wounds and cavities: Cut the appropriate length of the cavity dressing and loosely pack the wound, ensuring not to overpack.

4. Cover and secure Melgisorb Plus with an appropriate secondary dressing. Compression therapy may be used in conjunction with Melgisorb Plus.

To change and remove the Melgisorb Plus dressing:

1. Change the Melgisorb Plus dressing when saturation is reached. Depending on the wound condition or as indicated by clinical practice, Melgisorb Plus can be left in place for several days.

2. Remove the secondary dressing and discard it appropriately.

3. Remove Melgisorb Plus by gently cleansing or flushing with 0.9% saline or an appropriate solution. Any non-gelled Melgisorb Plus will moisten in contact with the saline. Dispose of the soiled dressing as per institution policy.
