Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution

Prontosan® is a Swiss-made wound cleansing solution formulated with PHMB and Betaine. This dual-action technology breaks down biofilm, loosens slough, reduces bioburden, and prepares the wound bed for optimal dressing performance. It is especially effective when combined with HydroClean® and Aquacel® dressings.

• Ringer’s solution continuously hydrates and lifts necrotic tissue.

• Aquacel® Extra / Ag+ Extra: Fills cavities, absorbs exudate, and traps bacteria.
• Aquacel® Foam: Provides an absorbent, protective cover.

How to Use

1. Wash hands and prepare clean supplies.
2. Saturate gauze with Prontosan®.
3. Apply as a wet soak for 10–15 minutes to loosen biofilm and slough.
4. Gently wipe away softened debris.
5. Rinse the wound again with Prontosan®.
6. Apply HydroClean® for active wound bed preparation if needed.
7. Fill the wound with Aquacel® Extra / Ag+ Extra and cover with Aquacel® Foam.

Is it painful?

No. Prontosan® is alcohol-free and pH-neutral, making it suitable for sensitive skin and long-term use.

How often can I use it?

1–2 times daily or as advised by your wound care professional.

How is it different from normal saline?

Saline only rinses the surface. Prontosan® breaks down biofilm, loosens slough, and reduces bacteria, improving healing.
